Members of the Rutgers Community:

We are pleased to announce that Rutgers University Libraries will resume access to our stacks at all libraries—Camden, Newark, New Brunswick, and RBHS—beginning Monday, August 23. This change brings with it important modifications to our services for accessing print collections, so please be aware of the following items.

  • As we resume access to the print collection, the Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS) of HathiTrust will be deactivated on Friday, August 20. Through an emergency arrangement with HathiTrust, we were able to provide digital access to over 1.2 million of our print titles while our stacks were closed. With the reopening of our stacks, the conditions for the fair use of digital copies of these materials will end, and so does our access to this service. Full text access to public domain and Creative Commons titles will still be available through the HathiTrust Digital Library.
  • You will now be able to access print materials as you did previously, including placing holds within QuickSearch for pickup at your preferred library location. As library users will now be able to freely browse the stacks, check out materials, and pick up holds during operating hours, our Click & Collect service will be suspended starting Friday, August 20.
  • Our home delivery service will remain active through QuickSearch for members of the Rutgers community who are off-campus and prefer to have their materials delivered to them.
  • Physical course reserves service will be available at all library locations for materials that cannot be provided in electronic format. If you are teaching a course, we encourage you to provide digital access to your course materials through our Reading List tool in your learning management system.

We are excited to welcome Rutgers students, faculty, and staff back into our stacks soon. As a reminder, the Libraries will be following all safety protocols established by the university.

If you have any questions about accessing the materials you need, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
